Theseus and the Minotaur

A long time ago, there was a king named King Minos. He had a very strong army, so he liked to attack Athens. One day, the king of Athens wanted to stop the wars, so he made a deal with king Minos that every year, he would sent seven boys and seven girls to the labyrinth, a huge maze that contained the Minotaur, a half man half bull that would eat all the children. Years passed, kids got eaten, then one year, Prince Theseus, a strong boy, wanted to be one of the kids to go to the labyrinth and kill the monster. His father didn't want him to go, but Theseus insisted. His father agreed, as long as if he killed the minotaur, his ship would have white sails instead of black ones. When everyone got onto the island, King Minos said that they could stay in his palace for the night before they got eaten. Also at the palace there was King Minos's dauter, Princes Ariadne. She admired Theseus and didn't want him to be eaten, so she gave him a note the next day:

Dear Theseus,

I am a beatiful princes that you probably saw in the palace. I am also looking for love. I want to save you so I thought of a plan. Meet me in one hour at the gate of the labirinth.

Ariadne

Theseus met her at the gate and she gave him a sword and some yarn. The yarn is to tie to the door, unroll it, then follow it to find the way back to the gate. Theseus went into the labyrinth, found the minitaur sleeping, and killed it. He found his way back to the gate, got out, and sailed back to Athens with Ariadne and the children. On the way to Athens, they stopped for some supplies on the island of Naxos. Ariadne was tired, so she lay down on the beech and had a nap. Theseus set sail quietly without the princes, then arrived in Athens, but he forgot to change the sails to white, so his father killed himself thinking Theseus was dead.

Heracles

Armed with his bow, his arrows and his club, Heracles set out to find a beast-the Nemean Lion. Trying to find the lion’s lair, he suddenly stopped in his tracks when he heard a loud roar! Heracles turned and saw the huge lion rushing toward him! Quickly, Heracles drew his bow and shot an arrow, but it didn't harm the lion. Then, Heracles quickly fired another arrow, and again it did no harm. The lion pounced, then Heracles smashed his heavy club on the coming monster, but it shattered against the lion's invincible skin.
Realizing no weapon could kill this monster, he fought the monster with his bare hands. With incredible strength, Heracles wrapped his strong arms around the lion’s neck and strangled it to death.
When the huge monster was dead, Heracles thought about skinning the beast, but the lion's skin was so tough he couldn't skin it. Then, he tried to use the monster's claws which were very sharp. This time it skinned the hide and Heracles took it. Realizing how indestructible it was he threw it over himself as a cloak, and pulling the head over his own as a helmet making the skin into armour which would make him even more powerful.

Medusa

Medusa once wasn't ugly. She was in love with Poseidon, god of the sea. Once they went into Athena's temple, and got caught, so Athena put a curse on Medusa so anyone who looked directly in her eyes was turned to stone.For centuries many heroes tried to destroy her but to no avail.Finally on day a brave man named Perseus killed her by chopping her head off.

THE QUEST

One day, a king wanted to marry Perseus's mother. So the king sent Perseus on a quest.An impossible quest. The quest was to kill and bring back the head of the monstrous Medusa. Before Perseus set off on his journey, the gods gave him three gifts. Hades gave him his helmet of invisibility until the quest was over, Hermes gave him a pair of flying sandals, and Athena gave him a sword that could cut through anything. So Perseus set off for his journey. When he reached Medusa's temple, he hid behind a pillar when he herd her coming. To make her come to him, he threw his shield into the arms of a statue. Perseus looked into his well polished shield to see where Medusa was. When she came beside the pillar he was standing behind... SLICE! Perseus cut off her head. To make sure he didn't look at Medusa, he put her head in a cloth bag. When Perseus came back, the king ordered his men to charge at him, but he turned the warriors and the king to stone.

The Hydra

The Hydra was half serpent and half dragon. It starts out with nine heads but when it gets cut off,two more grow. One day, Hercules wanted to kill the beast so, he tried to cut it off a few times but they grew back. Then, he tried to cut it's heads off then quickly set it on fire with a torch before it grew back then, it worked! He still had to kill the immortal head. He cut of its head, set it on fire, then put it under a rock to keep it from groing back.

APHRODITE

Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty. Her symbols of power are dolphins, roses, scallop shells, myrtles, doves, sparrows and swans.Once Zeus made Aphrodite marry Hephaestus since he was the most steady god out of all of them. to stop a war of jealousy over Aphrodite because she was to beautiful.

APHRODITE'S NAMES

Aphrodite has many names used in many different places of the world. The ones used in Greece are Cirilo, Cytherea, Pandemos and Idalia and when all the cities of Greece combined the names, they got the name Aphrodite.

APHRODITE'S BIRTH

There's actually 2 different myths about how Aphrodite was born the 1st one is that she was born from sea foam, because Cronus cut off Uranus' genitals and threw them into the sea behind him. After the genitals had sailed a long time across the water, white foam form into a little girl named Aphrodite from from the human flesh.Then Aphrodite floated straight to an empty scallop shell. Then she drifted towards the shore in the scallop shell, when she arose she was then hailed as Cyprian.Who knew such a beautiful person could be made in such a disgusting way.

Hermes

HERMES

Hermes is the clearverest of the Gods, he's also the God of theives,travelers,sportsmen,bordercrossings and commerces.His simbols of power are:tortoises and winged sandals.

Artemis

Artemis is the goddess of the hunt,forests,hill and the moon. Her symbol of power and her weapon of choice is the bow and arrow. She is the oldest Greek goddess and has a brother, Apollo.

Ares

Ares is the god of war. He was a cruel god that nobody wanted to be aroud accept for Aphrodite. Ares loved Aphrodite almost as much as he loved war. The bloodier the battle the better. Ares was also a bad-temperd coward. Whenever he was wounded he would beg Zeus to heal him. When defeated, he was a sore loser.

Athena

Athena's Birth

Athena is the goddess of wisdom, battle, crafts and plans. Athena is a child of Zeus. She is the brother of Ares and her symbol of power is the owl.She lives in a palace called Athens.

Athena's birth
Athena was born from Zeus's head. Zeus was suffering from a terrible headache and ordered Hephaestus to crack open his head, then Athena rose in full battle armor. She became Zeus's favourite child and Zeus let Athena use all his weapons including his prized weapon the lightningbolt!

Athena and Medusa
Back when Medusa was pretty, Poseidon and Medusa had a date in Athena's temple. When
Athena found out about this she turned Medusa into a monster that was so ugly that whenever someone looks directly into her eyes they turn to stone.

The Fight Over Athens

The fight over Athens began when Athena and Poisidon both wanted Athens so they had a competion.The competion was that they had to make a gift for Athens and the people of Athens would decide who had the better gift and whoever had the better gift would be given Athens.When the two olypians faced off.

Poisidon gave them a neverending trade of water but it was salty.Athena gave them the first olive tree. The people of Athens gave Athena Athens.

Apollo

Apollo is the god of medicine, music and drives the sun. His only sibling is Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt. His father is Zeus and his mother is Hera. He wears armor made of fire when he is in battle and his weapon of choice is the bow and arrow.

Poseidon

POSEIDON

Poseidon is the god of the sea, earthquakes and horses.His symbol of power is the trident. When he wants to make an earthquake, he slams his trident on the ground and could kill anybody if they get to close. Poseidon has two brothers: Hades and Zeus. To invent a horse Poseidon made a big wave and after the wave clears a horse appears.

Hades

Hades is another brother of Zeus and Poseidon. He lived in the Underworld and his symbol of power is the Helm of Darkness. Hades is God of the underworld. He has a three headed dog named Cerberus who guards the Underworld but only lets the dead in. There are only a few heroes who have gotten in and out alive.

Zeus

Zeus may be the youngest child of Cronos and Rhea, but Zeus is also the king of all gods. Zeus' symbol of power is the lightning bolt, he uses it against anyone who displeases him. Zeus has two other brothers:Poseidon and Hades.
Beleive it or not Zeus actually killed Cronos, his own dad and then threw the remaines into Tartaurus.
Zeus controlles lightning,thunder and rain which also makes him a weather god.
